Maya is being fostered in Port Clinton Ohio. Please read entire bio before applying.

Maya is a beautiful 8 pound long hair Chihuahua, who will turn 5 on October 17th. She was turned into a shelter in PA over 3 years ago, because the family had allergies and they had to keep her separate. As a result, it appears she was not socialized as much as she should have been. She is friendly but guarded, until she gets to know you and feels safe in your company. She warms up to women faster than she does to men. She is also not shy about vocalizing her anxiety of men and strangers, but will snuggle with her foster dad if he is sitting down. Maya is playful and affectionate, on her terms. She gets along with most other dogs, but likes to try to be top dog and does best with young playful dogs (she does not do well with senior dogs). She would do well in a quiet home with one or two other dogs. Maya is crate trained and house trained, but will need ongoing work on socialization. She loves toys and yummy treats! Maya is very smart so training classes and mental stimulation will help her thrive. Maya does need a fenced yard since she isn't the best on a leash, plus she loves to run laps around the yard, and is super fast! What she needs more than anything is a family who could give her the space, patience, and training she needs to become a confident and more secure young lady!  Maya did test positive for Lyme disease which we are treating with Doxycycline and she will have a dental on November 15th, but we would love to have the perfect home lined up for her once she is recovered.

To adopt Maya, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation (discounted $250 adoption donation for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart Worm and Lyme test), fecal, bloodwork, microchip, spay, dental, and all the love you can handle!
